Professional-Development Workshop for Emerging and Professional Artists

Stipend Available for Student Intern at an Oregon Media Outlet
The AAJA (Asian-American Journalists Association) Portland chapter is offering a $2,000 stipend to fund an
academic intern working at an Oregon media outlet this fall semester. The stipend is designed to offset costs of required college credit or housing and transportation needs. Any student must first secure an internship with an Oregon media outlet before applying for this stipend. Students who are currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs are eligible; recent college graduates may be considered. The intern must meet AAJA's goal of increasing diversity in newsrooms. You need not be Asian-American or necessarily interested in news to
AAJA Portland strongly encourages any student interested in applying for the stipend to become an AAJA member. Applicants must submit name, resume, internship supervisor at media outlet and an essay (500 words) on the importance of diversity in the media.

Submit Photos to Get Published in FACTORY, AiPD's Student Magazine
The Factory is looking for submissions for the next edition of the magazine. We would really like to see some more photography work. Theme for next edition is “Yearbook”, but entries don't need to relate to the theme. Please send entries with name attached to Felicia Martushev: mar2shev@yahoo.com. If you'd like to become involved in the magazine's production on a more regular basis, contact Felicia, too!
Tutors Now Available for Photo Classes!
We have several new photo major tutors signed up with the tutoring center, so be sure to check them out if you could use assistance with any of your photo-related courses. Visit the tutoring department website to search for tutors and set up a meeting -- http://tutoring.aidepartments.com/tutors. In addition, there will be Drop-In Help Labs staffed by tutors twice a week, beginning Week 3 of the quarter, for those of you who could use help with Adobe Lightroom and computing skills covered in the introductory photo classes.

After Dark Portland Event
AfterDark Education is looking for 20 photography students to volunteer to help with their upcoming workshop in Portland from September 12 -15. AfterDark (afterdarkedu.com) sponsors hands-on workshops across the country for aspiring portrait photographers. Attendees get the opportunity to work with professional mentors in the field to learn lighting, shooting, and retouching techniques. Volunteers will provide general support for the event, but also get to pick up tips and interact with mentors and students. Submit your best work for the Photography Department's Quarterly Exhibition
You may have noticed the eye-catching display of outstanding photo student work across from the Student Commons. Do you have photographic work you'd like to show off? The Photography Department is mounting new work every quarter, and your best images could be on display!
We're currently accepting submissions for Fall Quarter's Photography Wall Display. Submissions will be accepted through the end of Exam Week (Week 10). Please submit either to your photography instructor or to Alexis Abrams' faculty mailbox in 311. You may pick up an image release form from your instructor or from Alexis' faculty mailbox. Submissions will only be eligible for consideration they meet the following criteria:

Photos must be from the past two quarters, created for a photography class

Files must be high resolution and print-ready at any size (do not downsize the file at all from highest in-camera resolution; tone for contrast and color correct. Maximum quality jpegs or flattened tiff or psd files preferred).

Submit on a CD labeled with your name, contact information, and the name of the course for which the image was created.

Pick up, sign, and submit an image release form when you drop off your submission CD.
